I've always been drawn to candid family photos rather than the more traditional posed ones. You probably already have loads of photos on your phone where everyone is looking at the camera yelling "cheese!" And those types of photos are meaningful too but they just don't show you in action, connecting with your people. Personally, I know my own kids will appreciate having the candid shots of us together even more than all those selfies I've taken with them.

And I can't talk about family photos without mentioning one of my favourite aspects of them: getting mom in the frame!

We all know mothers are (usually) the main documenters of the family, but getting her in the frame, interacting with her kids, is such a gift; both to her and your kids in the future.

Want something a little more out of the box? Consider doing your family somewhere other than a picturesque location. Why not at your local park? Getting ice cream together? Exploring a museum? Hanging out in your front yard, drawing with chalk on the sidewalk, blowing bubbles? The possibilities are endless :)
